How PI&WES Contributed during the Earthquake

PI&WES section has demonstrated its capacity by constructing permanent shelters in Siran and Kaghan valleys. It has undertaken temporary shelter programme through collaboration of Mercy Corps, Hidaya and Behbood foundation., constructing school buildings through Care International and LFL financings. Emergency water supply and sanitation schemes have been installed through the collaboration of International Medical Corps (IMC).
Through PPAF, it is engaged in providing technical trainings to masons, carpenters, steel fixers, activists and engineering staff of SRSP and other organizations.
Through this trained cadre, SRSP is undertaking the reconstruction of private houses, community buildings and rehabilitation of the damaged infrastructure schemes.

Highlights of the Current PIWES Program

Mainstream Programme

  • Total of 3,865 CPIs initiated benefiting 232,721 community members.
  • Overall 30% CPIs initiated with women community organizations
  • The total cost of CPIs is 1.205 billion.
  • 3,291 CPIs completed i.e. 85 % completion rate of CPIs overall. Earthquake R & R 5. 210 CPIs to be initiated from April 06-March 07.
  • 207 CPIs initiated/completed during the period.

Physical and Financial Progress of the year (Overall July 06- June 07)

Salient Features

  • Target of Community Physical Infrastructure Initiatives was 751.
  • Total Projects initialized were 756.
  • Percentage Achievement 100%.
  • Total Project Costs were Rs 425 Million.
  • 53,568 Households were benefitted from the CPI Schemes.

Achievements, Challenges and Future Plans

Major Achievements

  • Completion of CPIs and number of projects as per the schedule in mainstream, non mainstream and earthquake relief and rehabilitation.
  • Surveys have been conducted for KPF projects in existing eight districts, whereas data for five new districts have also been compiled.
  • Water quality testing laboratory established and provide support in earthquake areas fulfilling ERRA requirements
  • Potential partnership with Khushaal Pakistan fund. Positive initial meetings
  • Drip Irrigation system and micro hydro projects introduced in programme area.
  • Introduction of Pipe irrigation system leading to an increased efficiency
  • Introduction of steel gratings in ordinary Nacca used in irrigation systems. The Nacca presently is called as “SRSP Model Nacca

Future Plans

SRSP is willing and ready to be partnering the implementation of Khushaal Pakistan Fund programme in NWFP.
