SRSP strategy in the relief stage was to establish tented villages near the respective villages of the earthquake affectees. All the 95 tented villages were established near the home village of the affectees. As per the Government strategy for rehabilitation, SRSP has already started working with his strategy that all the tented villages shall be closed down and people shall be shifted to their own village.
The tented village established by SRSP in Bampora in Mansehra District was the first ever tented village from which the earthquake affectees have been shifted to their own villages. The shifting was made in the beginning of March 2006. Shifting of earthquake affectees from other tented villages in Andrasi, Ballakot, Battagram, Battal and Mansehra has also been regularly reported. With over 90% of the total tented villages established by SRSP has been closed down and the remaining are in processes
SRSP, due to its extensive presences and outreach in the area, was the only organisation in the area with the most rapid delivery systems. After the teams were re-organised into relief teams the process of relief items distribution became more efficient. Secondly throughout all the emergency response, SRSP took the responsibility of distributing the relief items and the procurement was done through the partners who were providing fund in most of the relief work, hence making SRSP systems more transparent and deliverable at the community level. Apart from relief items distributed in tent villages, relief items were also distributed amongst individual households. Proper distribution and reaching the deserving people were ensured through pre-assessments and post monitoring. Details are as followed:
