Water and sanitation schemes has been initiated 91 schemes in the most affected areas of Battagram, Siren valley, Konch Valley and Battal. Along with WatSan facilities health and hygiene trainings is also part of this package. The training is given to the community members. A total of 23 schemes has been initiated in Ballakot, 20 schemes in Siren valley, 33 schemes in Battagram and 15 schemes in Battal respectively. The total time period of the project was five months, starting from December 2005.
All the 91 schemes were started one after another and 24 schemes has been 100 percent completed while the remaining are still in progress. The regional programme engineer and the field engineer are monitoring the schemes.
SRSP has to rehabilitate & construct 90 physical infrastructure of Watsan (water & sanitation) and also has a task of hygiene promotion in these villages where Watsan is provided. SRSP has trained a team by IMC for hygiene promotion and they are called Master Trainers and they are delivering trainings in devastated area like Balakot,Battagram,Siran and Konch valley. This training is called PHAST (participatory hygiene and sanitation transformation), which is participatory, and we can say that it is a key for behavioral change rather than training.
Master Trainers are responsible to train persons according to population (1 person for 20 H.H) called camp/community trainer who is further responsible to give realization to 20 H.H.This trainer is awarded with a PHAST tool kit. Females are trained to educate female community so one household is doubly educated and on the completion of PHAST training hygiene kits are distributed among the community.
Modules of PHAST are pictorial and more easy for a illiterate person to understand and good source of realization for hygiene promotion. When a person among the community gives realization for hygiene promotion to them, they do regard of this thing and better results come. |
