SRSP in partnership with Australian Government has initiated a 3 years Livelihood project for reducing poverty through reviving livelihoods and empowering communities in three central districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
These districts are Peshawar, Charsadda, and Nowshera. The project was initially focused on livelihoods but the sudden devastated floods brought mega destruction in the project target areas. The population became displaced and shelter less.SRSP management in consultation with the donor has decided to shift project’s initial six months funding to programs of early recovery for smoothening ways for livelihoods interventions in the area. Further, after building synergies with GTZ, SRSP launched early recovery project in Nowshera district with the same objective, hence to avoid replication of activities and increase the scope of operations, the funds of Nowshera district were reallocated and transferred to district Peshawar and Charsadda. The total funds allocated for the Early Recovery phase are 48.79 million PKR.
Schemes details are as follows
District Peshawar
SRSP has formed 57 community organizations including 36 male and 21 female. The organizations have a total membership of 1,429 male and females.
1) In order to provide direct cash income to the flood affected communities, an amount of Rs. 1,286,250 was disbursed among 406 labours, who were employed in the rehabilitation of 54 projects under the Cash For Work programme. These projects include rubble removal from 49 irrigation channels and cleaning of 5 drains.
2) 34 schemes of drinking water supply schemes, irrigation channels and sanitation are in different stage of rehabilitation. A total amount of Rs. 17.01 million has been allocated for the rehabilitation of these community managed infrastructure.
3) 13 male community members were provided with Livestock extension workers.
4) 13 females were provided residential Livestock trainings. The females will serve as extension workers with an opportunity to enhance their incomes through provision of poultry related services.
5) 23 persons including 11 females were trained in employable/vocational trades of plumbing, electricity and embroidery. The embroidery trainings were specially arranged for flood affected females.
6) Under the restoration of livestock, a total of 6,695 animals were vaccinated and de-wormed. The process is in progress and will be followed by artificial insemination programme.
7) 8 plots for research and demonstration of improved wheat seed (6) and off-season vegetables (2) have been established in various flood affected areas of district Peshawar.
District Charsadda
1) 42 community organizations (30 male and 12 female) with a total membership of 1,050 individuals have been established
2) A total of 599 infrastructure facilities were rehabilitated and cleaned through Cash for Work Programme that included 38 drains, 302 wells, 4 bridle paths, 15 link roads, side wall filling of 2 walls and 131 irrigation channels. A total of 417 labours were employed in the activities, whereas an amount of Rs. 1,489,185 was disbursed among the labours.
3) Rehabilitation of 43 community infrastructure projects is in various stage of completion. A total amount Rs. 19.34 million has been allocated for the projects.
4) 14 male community members were provided with Livestock extension workers.
5) 14 females were provided residential Livestock trainings. The females will serve as extension workers with an opportunity to enhance their incomes through provision of poultry related services.
6) 30 persons including 19 females were trained in employable/vocational skills. Vocational skills of the males were enhanced in plumbing, electricity and shoe making, whereas the females were trained in tailoring and embroidery.
7) For restoration of livestock, vaccination of 4,670 animals was completed.
8) 7 plots for research and demonstration of improved wheat seed have been established in various flood affected areas of Charsadda district
