Over the years and in particular because of the DFID assistance in Capacity Building (2002-04) SRSP has built strengths in working in widely different agro ecological zones and distinct cultural zones in the province, spreading from the northern mountain regions to the arid zones in the south.
It has accumulated a rich array of experience in a holistic, livelihood centered approach to poverty alleviation. SRSP has developed competencies in grass root institutional building, governance, local level planning, participatory infrastructure development, micro finance, natural resource management, gender and social sector development, education, health and small enterprise development. This is the heart of SRSP's programme. Over a period of fourteen years SRSP has worked with over six thousand community organizations, one third of which are women organizations in diverse settings like the high mountain belts of Chitral, the forested mountain belts of Mansehra, the middle plains of Hazara, the semi urban areas of Peshawar, Nowshera and Charsadda and the Arid Zone of the southern districts of Kohat, Karak and Hangu.
SRSP has taken a lead in preparing and operationalising a gender policy at organizational, programme and external levels. Gender modules have been developed for all level of staff and gender workshop for the Board of Directors have also been held. SRSP has developed rich experience of working in participatory infrastructure with communities in road building, water and sanitation, irrigation and small dams, micro hydro electricity. SRSP helps communities implement 350 projects each year at the cost of Rs 100 million each year. For more information Click Here
SRSP has addressed the issues of information system, policies, products and human resources which have plagued its performance in the past years and is a leading player in this field in NWFP. It has distributed over Rs240 million of credit to small farmers. Its programme today however remains a small and take off likely to remain small while it is putting its new systems in place. It is acknowledged as a leading institution in NWFP in Human Resource Development focused on participatory development and runs good programmes which have been acknowledged by both local and international users. The HRD part of SRSP has been a good source of income for the programme. 791 events for staff capacity building on a yearly basis and 115 events for community capacity building and 1802 trainee days of commercial training have been held in a year. SRSP has good experience of working on micro enterprise programmes which build self-reliance and empowerment for women. It is implementing projects worth Rs 18 million in this sector at present. For more information Click Here
SRSP has good experience of working both in the non-formal and formal sectors. It also has worked on district education plans, parent teachers association etc. It is implementing project of over Rs 80 million at present in this sector. It is involved in helping the District Government with District Education Plan in Dir and in establishing over seventy community schools. For more information Click Here
SRSP has been actively engaged in developing capacities of district governments through training of councillors in both participatory development and formation of citizen community boards. In partnership with two other organizations it has trained 20,000 councillors in the last year with the assistance of UNDP and EIROP. It has also worked on a training project for women councilors in the last one year. SRSP is a
lso working with the Devolution Trust for Community Empowerment for the establishment of Citizen Community Boards across the province. It has also been a leading organisation in the province in championing public private partnership.
