Barani Area Development Project Phase II

 

Project Name: Barani Area Development Project Phase II (Village Level Development Component)

Donor Agency:Go NWFP (ADB/IFAD)

Cost: Rs. 299 Million

Project Area:

Abbottabad, Haripur, Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Mansehra, Battagram Districts

Period: 5 years (Jan 2003 – 08)

Objective

Main objective of the project is to establish sustainable village level development structure to improve living standards of the small landholders and less people by enhancing their incomes and to improve rural livelihood opportunities to boost access to social and economic resources.

1. Formation of MCOs, WCOs, MVOs                                and WVOs

 

Formation of 1128 MCOs, 669 WCOs, 417  VOs

 

Under the project 1501 MCO s, 722 WCO s,
413 VO s have been formed.

 

Village level organizations have been identified as potential LSOs.

330 COs have been registered as CCBs providing an access to development funds at the UC level.

102 mega projects have been initiated by VOs benefiting the poor and the vulnerable.

 

2. Gender & Development Forum Meetings

 

121 meetings

 

113 meetings Gender and Development Forum meetings have been held.

 

Through Gender Development Forums the women mobility has increased. In addition their access to skills training has resulted in women led small businesses enhancing their asset base and reducing their vulnerabilities.
